This service suits businesses with several marketing channels, longer consideration periods or sales journeys involving more than one person.

Check the fit

Know what success means.

We report the share of relevant outcomes represented by usable journey records, along with known gaps in sources or associations. The coverage view helps explain whether a change in attributed revenue reflects a business change or improved tracking.

Your questions, answered.

The practical details, when you need them.

Which attribution model should our business use?

The model should match the question, the outcome and the data available. First touch can help examine where recorded relationships begin. Last touch focuses attention near the selected conversion point. A model that shares credit across interactions can reveal earlier activity, but its output still depends on the interactions the system observes. We start with the decision you need to make and explain what each suitable model will emphasise before recommending a reporting approach.

A model's name does not communicate all its rules. The reporting tool may define eligible interactions, time windows and conversion points differently from another platform. We inspect those details and the supported options in your current account. Where useful, we compare more than one model to see whether a recommendation remains sensible. If a channel looks essential under one view and irrelevant under another, that disagreement is a finding to investigate rather than hide.

The goal is an interpretable basis for decisions. We document the chosen model, its limits and the reason it suits the question. You can then combine the attribution finding with customer costs, sales knowledge and other evidence. When the business needs to know whether an activity creates additional sales, we identify the need for a suitable experiment or other causal evaluation instead of asking attribution alone to answer it.

Why do HubSpot, analytics and advertising platforms show different revenue?

They may be measuring different things. A CRM report can use deal records and associated contacts, while an advertising platform assigns credit under its own interaction and attribution rules. A website analytics tool has another view of the observed journey. The same customer can therefore appear in several reports, and the totals should not automatically be added together as unique revenue generated by separate channels.

We compare the outcome definition, date field, attribution window and included interactions before investigating discrepancies. Closed deal value, payment received and a configured purchase event can all be labelled revenue in casual discussion while referring to different business events. Contact associations, consent choices and cross device gaps can further affect coverage. Differences in currencies, time zones and processing schedules can also matter, so the reconciliation needs a clear reference rather than an assumption that one tool must be wrong.

The service establishes a business outcome view and explains how the other reports relate to it. Platform reports remain useful for their intended operational purposes, but their boundaries stay visible. Where a discrepancy is caused by configuration or missing data, we identify the repair. Where it is a legitimate consequence of different methods, we document it. This gives your team a way to interpret the numbers consistently without forcing every system to display the same total or claiming that agreement alone would prove accuracy.

Can attribution prove which marketing activity caused a sale?

Attribution assigns credit to recorded interactions under a set of rules. It can show that certain activity appeared in observed customer journeys, but that alone does not establish what would have happened without the activity. Customers already intending to buy may interact with an advert, while other influences may never be recorded. Treating allocated revenue as an exact measure of additional sales caused by each channel would overstate what the report demonstrates.

A causal question needs an evaluation designed around an alternative outcome. A controlled experiment may compare exposed and unexposed groups or another appropriately designed separation, where feasible. The right method depends on the channel, available volume, operational constraints and the decision at stake. We do not promise that every small campaign can support a conclusive lift test, and a simple before and after change may remain affected by seasonality or other simultaneous business changes.

Attribution still has a useful role. It can identify patterns worth testing, reveal missing journey data and prevent earlier interactions from disappearing behind the final conversion step. GRO explains which decisions the evidence supports and which need another method. That lets you use the available information without dismissing it or demanding certainty it cannot provide. The handover distinguishes an observed association, a modelled allocation and a conclusion supported by a separate test, so the commercial interpretation stays clear to everyone using the report.

How do you handle several contacts involved in one business purchase?

We examine the relationship between contacts, companies and opportunities before building the report. A technical researcher, budget holder and purchasing contact may all contribute to one buying process, but their records can be associated differently in the CRM. If only the final signatory is attached to the deal, earlier recorded research may be missing from the report's eligible journey. The solution begins with understanding how your sales team maintains those relationships.

The reporting design uses the associations supported by the chosen tool and documents which contacts can contribute interactions. We also review timing and purpose: a person associated with a company is not automatically involved in every deal that company opens. Linking every historical contact indiscriminately could introduce irrelevant activity. Clear association practices help the CRM reflect actual buying groups without claiming to reconstruct private conversations or offline influences that were never recorded in the first place.

Representative deal checks show how those rules affect the output. Where associations need improvement, we define the administrative action and owner, then explain whether historical reporting can be updated or only future journeys will improve. The report should make its unit of analysis clear, distinguishing a contact conversion from a company acquisition or won opportunity. That gives a business to business sales team a useful view of recorded involvement while avoiding the mistake of counting each participating person as an independently acquired customer.

Do we need expensive attribution software or a higher HubSpot subscription?

Not necessarily. We first define the decision and inspect the tools you already have. A focused source report or a limited model comparison may answer the question without another platform. More elaborate attribution becomes useful when the additional interactions and reporting capabilities materially improve a decision. Buying software before confirming the data foundations can leave you with a more detailed presentation of the same missing or incorrectly associated customer records.

HubSpot's attribution capabilities vary by report type and subscription, so we check current eligibility against the specific outcome you want to analyse. Contact, deal and revenue reporting should not be assumed to have identical access requirements. Your existing attribution platform may also be suitable and can form part of the scope. We explain any licence dependency and the benefit it would provide before recommending a change, alongside the cost of maintaining the required tracking and CRM practices.

The proposal distinguishes data repair, report configuration and ongoing interpretation. This clarifies investment and responsibilities. Where the current evidence is limited, a simpler maintained report can be more useful than an advanced model that nobody trusts. GRO's contribution is to make the measurement and its commercial meaning clear, with client owned access and documented settings so the service remains useful whichever reporting tool you choose to use in the future.

What does Marketing attribution include?

Understand the path before giving one channel the credit

A customer might discover your business through an advert, return through search, read a service page and speak to sales before buying. A report that credits only the final recorded interaction answers a narrow question about that journey. Other attribution models distribute credit differently. The useful task is to understand the effect of those choices and the quality of the interactions being analysed.

GRO reviews the evidence before selecting a reporting model. We establish what counts as the outcome, which interactions can be observed and how contacts connect to opportunities or customers. The work can reveal useful earlier activity that a final interaction report overlooks. It can also reveal that apparently sophisticated reporting rests on missing contact associations or inconsistent campaign names.

You receive an interpretation of recorded contribution and practical actions to investigate. Attribution describes observed journeys; it cannot establish how many sales would disappear if a channel stopped. We combine the findings with customer economics and sales knowledge, identifying where a separate test is needed to answer a causal question.

Check the journey data and the rules used to interpret it

We inventory the sources, campaign labels, website tracking and CRM relationships involved in the report. The scope identifies which interaction types are included, which customer event is being credited and the relevant time basis. We review duplicate contacts, deal associations and missing outcomes because these affect the journey the tool can reconstruct. An attractive chart cannot compensate for a sale linked to the wrong person.

The implementation uses the reporting capabilities appropriate to your account. HubSpot offers attribution reports for different outcomes, with features depending on subscription and report type. We verify current access and supported models before configuring the view. The model choice is explained in plain language, and comparison views are included where they help reveal whether a proposed decision depends heavily on one way of assigning credit.

Deliverables include the configured reports, a data coverage assessment and an interpretation guide. Where an existing attribution platform is suitable, we can work with it. Additional licences or tracking repairs are scoped explicitly. The focus is the decision your business needs to make, rather than replacing working software or promising a complete record of every online and offline influence.

How does Marketing attribution work in practice?

Start with the decision the report needs to support

We agree the commercial question first. You might need to understand whether educational content appears in successful journeys, whether prospecting contributes before brand searches, or which activities precede suitable opportunities. That question determines the outcome, interaction set and useful comparison. Trying to make one report answer every marketing question often produces a crowded view that nobody can interpret confidently.

We then inspect representative journeys and compare the records with what your team knows happened. We check source capture, tracking availability and the association between people and deals. The investigation distinguishes missing observations from confirmed absence of an interaction. A visitor who could not be recognised on a later device should not be described as having no earlier relationship simply because the report cannot connect it.

We compare conclusions across reasonable models, distinguishing stable patterns from fragile rankings. The handover explains coverage limits and the next useful investigation. Ownership of campaign naming and CRM associations is established so new activity and sales process changes can be reflected consistently in the report as the business develops.

Hypothetical example: an advisory firm's research journey

Consider an engineering advisory firm whose prospects research specialist projects before speaking to sales. In this hypothetical example, a buyer first reads a technical guide after a LinkedIn advert, later searches for the firm by name and finally submits an enquiry after reviewing a service page. A colleague also joins the buying process and becomes the primary contact on the eventual deal.

A final interaction view may put the emphasis on the later search or website visit. A broader model may assign some credit to earlier recorded interactions, but only if the relevant contact history and deal associations are available. GRO would inspect those relationships before interpreting the guide's contribution. The colleague's involvement creates a genuine reporting question rather than proof that the early activity had no influence.

The useful outcome could be a clearer view of the guide's role in observed opportunity journeys and a recommendation to maintain consistent buying group associations. If the firm needs to know whether the campaign causes additional demand, that would require a different evaluation. This example demonstrates interpretation and data requirements; it is not a GRO case study or an assertion of a channel's actual effectiveness.

How do we decide whether Marketing attribution is right for us?

Measure coverage as well as attributed credit

We report the share of relevant outcomes represented by usable journey records, along with known gaps in sources or associations. The coverage view helps explain whether a change in attributed revenue reflects a business change or improved tracking. Outcomes outside the report's eligibility rules remain visible where possible, so stakeholders understand that the attribution chart may represent only part of the customer base.

The model comparison examines where credit moves and which conclusions remain stable. First touch emphasises the first recorded interaction, last touch emphasises the final eligible interaction and a linear model shares credit across included interactions. The available definitions depend on the reporting tool and outcome. We explain the actual configured rules rather than relying on the model's name to communicate every detail.

We turn findings into specific questions and actions. These could involve reviewing an overlooked campaign, improving a content journey or investigating missing sales associations. Performance reviews also consider customer value and sales cycle maturity. Attributed revenue is an allocation of observed outcome value under a model; it should not be presented as proof that each channel independently generated that amount of additional business.

Useful when several activities influence the same sale

This service suits businesses with several marketing channels, longer consideration periods or sales journeys involving more than one person. It is useful when teams disagree because each platform reports its own contribution, or when an existing attribution tool produces numbers without an explanation. You can commission an assessment or reporting implementation while keeping your existing campaign providers and customer systems.

The foundations are maintained outcome records, useful contact associations and a consistent approach to source capture. Perfect tracking is not a realistic prerequisite, but substantial gaps limit the conclusions available. We explain whether the current setup supports a useful comparison, requires focused data repair or would benefit more from a simpler report. Subscription requirements are checked against the actual report you need.

GRO connects measurement with the website, CRM and sales decisions that shape the customer journey. That helps turn a reporting finding into a practical improvement with an owner. The proposal defines the sources, reports and interpretation work included, with ongoing maintenance or experimentation scoped separately. You retain access to the configured views and their definitions so the evidence can be reviewed independently.
