Why bills creep up

Four ways businesses overpay for utilities. We stop all four.

Business energy works differently from your supply at home. There’s no price cap, contracts don’t wait for you, and nobody checks the bills unless you do. Here’s where the money leaks out.

  1. 01

    The rollover trap

Miss your notice window and your supplier can move you onto its standard rates. They’re always more expensive, sometimes considerably, and they can be hard to escape.

What we do: log every end date and notice period, then start tendering early. You never roll over by accident.

  2. 02

    The loyalty penalty

Your supplier’s renewal quote is rarely its best price. New customers get the “win” rate. Loyal ones get the “renewal” rate.

What we do: put your current supplier in the same tender as everyone else, so it has to compete for your business.

  3. 03

    Bills nobody checks

On average, one in four commercial water bills is wrong. Estimated reads and incorrect charges can go unnoticed for years.

What we do: audit your water bills and claim back overcharges from up to six years ago. No refund, no fee.

  4. 04

    No time to shop around

Calling suppliers and comparing unit rates, standing charges and terms takes days, and prices move while you’re doing it.

What we do: ask for one bill and one signature. We run the tender and show you the results side by side.

What we do

Every utility your premises run on. One team keeping track.

From a single shop to a multi-site group, we handle the sourcing, renewals, bill queries and supplier wrangling, so you don’t have to.

  • Fixed or flexible

    Business electricity

Fixed or flexible contracts from major and specialist suppliers, compared on price and on terms. We negotiate for thousands of customers, so you get big-buyer leverage.

  • Renewals managed

    Business gas

Competitive gas contracts, renewed before your notice window closes. Early credit and risk checks mean we only broker quality deals with suppliers we trust.

  • No refund, no fee

    Water audits and refunds

Send us 12 months of bills for a free water health check. If you’ve been overcharged, we claim it back, and our fee is only payable once the money is back with you.

  • From 500,000 kWh

    Flexible energy contracts

Buy energy the way large corporates do. Join a managed Flexible Basket from 500,000 kWh a year, or get a bespoke strategy from 5 GWh. A 100% renewable option is available.

  • Often no fee

    New connections

Moving, fitting out or building? One point of contact from capacity advice to meter installation and your first supply contract, often with no fee to pay.

  • Use less, pay less

    Energy efficiency

Cut what you use, not just what you pay, with LED lighting and energy audits. For many businesses, a 20% cut in energy costs is worth as much as a 5% rise in sales (Carbon Trust).

How it works

Three steps. One decision, and it’s yours.

  1. 1

    About 2 minutes

    Send us a recent bill

A photo or PDF is fine. It tells us your meters, usage and current rates. Spend more than £3,000 a year on water? Send that bill too.

  2. 2

    About 1 minute

Sign a one-page letter of authority

It’s done on DocuSign, even from your phone. It lets us request your data and negotiate for you. It can’t be used to sign a contract.

  3. 3

    Your call

    Choose your deal

We tender the market, your current supplier included, and talk you through the results. You choose. We handle the paperwork, the switch or the renewal.

  4. Then

    Every year after

    Then we keep track

We watch your contracts, chase billing errors and come back to you before your next notice window closes. For as long as you’re with us.

Straight dealing

Our promises, in writing.

Business energy broking has a reputation, and some brokers have earned it. Their paperwork can let them sign contracts in your name, sometimes a year before your current deal ends. Ours can’t, and never will.

Our letter of authority

1 page Lasts 12 months Withdraw any time

What it lets us do

  • Request your meter data and contract history
  • Negotiate with your current supplier and others
  • Handle the renewal or switch paperwork
  • Step in when there’s a billing problem

What it never lets us do

  • Sign a contract on your behalf
  • Run on indefinitely
  • Tie you to Utilitrack
  • No hidden charges

You’ll know how we’re paid before you agree to anything.

  • No hard sell

No strong-arm tactics and nothing deceptive. Just the facts, and our honest advice.

  • Errors reported, rebates returned

If we spot a mistake, we tell you straight away. If you’re owed money, it comes back to you.

  • Unreliable suppliers avoided

We steer clear of suppliers we know are unreliable, to limit your contractual and financial risk.

FAQs

Questions, answered straight.

Can’t see yours? Call 0113 397 0331 or email admin@utilitrack.co.uk.

How does Utilitrack get paid?

For gas and electricity, the supplier you choose pays us a commission, which is included in your contract rates. There’s no separate bill from us and no hidden charges. For water audits, you only pay a fee if we recover money for you, and only once it’s back with you.

Will I have to switch supplier?

Only if it’s the best deal for you. Your current supplier is included in every tender, and sometimes the best result is a better contract with the supplier you already have.

Can you sign a contract on my behalf?

No. Our letter of authority lets us gather your data and negotiate for you, but it doesn’t allow us to sign anything. Every decision is yours. Read about our letter of authority.

What do you need from me to get started?

A recent bill for each utility (plus half-hourly data if you have a half-hourly meter) and the name of the person authorised to sign contracts. If you’ve changed your business name or just moved premises, let us know that too.

What is the rollover trap?

If you don’t give notice at the right time, your supplier can move you onto its standard rates. They’re always more expensive, sometimes considerably so, and can be hard to get out of. We track your notice dates so it doesn’t happen to you.

Fixed or flexible: which contract is right for me?

Fixed contracts give budget certainty, but the price includes a supplier “risk premium”. Flexible contracts track wholesale prices, so you can buy when the market dips, and there are no tolerance penalties if your usage changes. They suit businesses using 500,000 kWh or more a year. We’ll show you how both compare.

Do you work with households?

No. We only work with businesses, clubs and charities with commercial premises, from single sites to multi-site groups.

I run a micro business. Does that change anything?

It can change which suppliers will quote and the protections you’re entitled to. Our letter of authority asks Ofgem’s micro business questions up front, so suppliers treat your business correctly.

Who will send my bills?

Your supplier bills you directly, at the rates we’ve arranged. If anything on a bill looks wrong, we’ll take it up with them for you.

Become a broker

Build your own energy brokerage. We’ll run the back office.

Tell us a little about your business, and a Utilitrack broker will be in touch to talk through your options.

What would you like us to look at?

The earlier we start, the more time we have to tender at the right moment.
