We grow the cereals that feed our own herd, hang the beef for at least 21 days and cut it on our counter, on the farm where it was reared. Then we fill the shelves with the best of Lancashire's growers and makers.
Open Tuesday to Saturday Hall Lane, Lathom, between Ormskirk and Burscough
Field to counter
Most butchers buy their beef in. We raise ours, from the cereals in our fields to the cut on our counter. Ask where your Sunday roast came from, and we can point.
Each spring we sow cereals on our own fields. Come harvest, they become our herd's feed for the next twelve months.
Limousin, Charolais and Belgian Blue cross cattle, raised here on an alkaline diet made mainly from our own cereals.
The best of the herd are selected weekly and slaughtered locally. Then the beef hangs for a minimum of 21 days, for flavour and tenderness you can't rush.
Joe, Steve and the team butcher it here on site. Ask for any cut, and they'll tell you how to cook it too.
In the shop
We converted the farm's original stone barn so everything could live in one place. Fill the basket with beef from our herd, fish from Peter's counter, pies from our kitchen and veg from the farms down the road.

Our counter has twice been named Farm Shop of the Year. What we're proudest of, though, is the people behind it. Our award-winning young butchers all learned their craft right here, trained by Steve, Joe and the team.
Our story
Taylors Farm has been in the Webster family for more than a hundred years. Roger and Bernie took it on in 1987, when Roger's father retired, and started a small herd of beef cattle alongside the cereals.
When BSE and foot-and-mouth hit farming hard, they made a plan to keep the farm going. They prepared their own beef in the family kitchen and sold it to friends and relatives. Then a converted barn, a three-foot counter and weekend opening.
One hot weekend they put a sign by the road: Taylors Farm burgers & steaks. The queue told them everything. They'd need a bigger shop, and a bigger team.
Today the shop is run by Roger, Bernie and two of their four children, Andrew and Joe. It's open five days a week, and the counter has grown a long way past three feet.
Roger and Bernie take on the farm when Roger's father retires.
Our first beef is sold from the family kitchen table.
Steve joins as our first full-time butcher.
We expand into the stables next door: fruit and veg, milk and ice cream.
The farm's original stone barn becomes one big shop.
Farm Shop of the Year. Twice.
The extension opens, with new homemade ranges and a bigger gift shop.
Open five days a week. Still family-run, still on the farm.
Local growers & makers
We'd rather buy from the farm down the road than a depot up the motorway. It keeps food miles down, flavour up and money in the local economy.
