What level is the NEBOSH General Certificate?

The NEBOSH General Certificate is an RQF Level 3 qualification. With RRC, the National General Certificate takes 112 hours of study plus assessment and the International General Certificate takes 103 hours. Both are available worldwide.

People based in, or planning to work in, the UK should choose the National certificate. Everyone else should look at the International certificate. Either way, it is widely seen as the foundation for a health and safety career, and roles such as Health and Safety Officer, Advisor and Coordinator often ask for it.

How much does the NEBOSH General Certificate cost?

With RRC, the National General Certificate costs £399 plus VAT as an Enhanced Online course, £995 plus VAT as a Live Online course and £1,495 plus VAT in a classroom. Each has a separate £190 NEBOSH exam fee. The International General Certificate is priced the same.

You can spread the cost over 2 to 4 months interest-free with RRC, or up to 10 months through Omni if you live in the UK, subject to status. These prices were checked on 9 October 2026.

Can I study around a full-time job?

Yes. Online courses are open 24/7, so you can study in the evenings or at lunch, as Hugo Fisher did for his NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate. Live Online courses run on fixed dates over Zoom, and every session is recorded for you to watch afterwards. Classroom courses suit people who can take time away from work: the National General Certificate runs as two weeks of five days each.

What happens if I do not pass first time?

RRC supports learners from enrolment until they complete their qualification, at no extra cost. If you need to resit an assessment, it is charged at cost: the examining body's fees, the exam venue's costs and RRC's administration costs. Katherina Thomas failed her NEBOSH Fire Certificate exam on her first attempt. Her tutors helped her understand how the questions are structured and how to back up her answers with legislation, knowledge and experience, and she passed.

Is there a free trial, and what about a refund?

You can try most RRC online courses free before you buy. The trial is either a sample of the course itself or, for shorter courses, a demonstration version of RRC's online course.

Once you have enrolled on an online course, a 30-day money-back guarantee applies, and you can contact your tutors and join the forums during those 30 days. If it is not right for you, tell RRC, confirm in writing that you have deleted any electronic copies of the materials, and the course is cancelled with a full refund.

Which qualification leads to IOSH membership?

It depends on the grade of membership, and RRC lists the professional recognitions for every qualification. Assessed in the UK, the NEBOSH National General Certificate gives Associate membership of IOSH (AIOSH) and meets the academic requirements for Technical membership (Tech IOSH). The NEBOSH National Diploma leads to Certified membership (CertIOSH). Check the recognitions page for the course you are considering.

What does RRC's AI coach do?

RAPID is RRC's AI coach, built on a closed set of RRC's own course content. It coaches you through each element of a course in a conversational style, and you can interrupt it with your own questions. On the General Certificates it also runs role plays based on scenario-style assessment questions and sets quizzes. It is available on both General Certificates, both Diplomas and the ProQual Level 6 NVQ Diploma, and its features vary by course.
