Which skip do I need?

Pick a size to see roughly what it holds. Still not sure? Call us and we'll tell you straight, even if that means a smaller skip.

Illustration only. Skip dimensions vary.

Mini skip 3–4 yards

≈ 30–45 bin bags

  • Small clear-outs and garage tidy-ups
  • Old furniture and DIY waste
  • Bathroom refits and garden jobs

Compact, so it suits tighter spaces.

Builders skip 6 yards

≈ 55–65 bin bags

  • Kitchen and bathroom refits
  • Small building and landscaping jobs
  • Heavy waste like soil, brick and rubble

Drop-down door available on request, so you can wheel barrows straight in.

Maxi skip 8 yardsMost popular

≈ 70–80 bin bags

  • House clearances and renovations
  • Mixed heavy and light waste
  • Bigger garden and building projects

Our most popular skip, and a safe choice for most home projects.

Jumbo skip 14–16 yards

≈ 130–160 bin bags

  • Bulky, light waste
  • Furniture, packaging and garden waste
  • Office and shop clear-outs

Not suitable for soil or rubble. It would be too heavy to lift.

Roll-on roll-off 20–40 yards

≈ 200–400 bin bags

  • Building sites and demolition
  • Farms, factories and commercial waste
  • Large-scale clearances

Needs firm ground and room for the lorry. We'll check access with you.

Bin-bag figures are a rough guide. Lockable and enclosed skips are available on request. Not sure? Call 01597 851844 and we'll help you choose.

Family-run since 1990

It started with one skip lorry.

Powys Environmental began in 1990 with a single skip truck and a simple aim: give local people a waste service they could rely on.

More than 35 years on, we run a modern, fuel-efficient fleet, a licensed waste transfer station with its own weighbridge, specialist hazardous and farm waste services, and a busy reclamation yard. We're still family-run, and when you call, you'll speak to someone who knows the area.

  • Family-run, with deep local roots
  • 35+ years in skip hire and waste
  • Over 85% of waste recycled
  • Fully licensed transfer station

  • Modern, fuel-efficient fleet

Talk to the yard

Mon–Fri 8am–4pm

info@powysenvironmentalltd.co.uk
What size skip do I need?

For most house clear-outs and renovations, an 8-yard maxi skip is the go-to. Smaller jobs suit a mini or builders skip, and bulky, light waste suits a jumbo. Tell us what you're clearing and we'll recommend the right size. Compare skip sizes

Do I need a permit to put a skip on the road?

Not if the skip can go on your driveway or private land. If it has to go on a public road or pavement, a council permit is needed first. Tell us when you book and we'll talk you through it.

What can't go in a skip?

General skips can't take asbestos, gas bottles, batteries, tyres, fridges and freezers, TVs and monitors, paints, oils, chemicals or medical waste. Some of these, such as asbestos, we can deal with separately through our hazardous waste service, so ask us first.

How long can I keep a skip?

Tell us how long you need it when you book and we'll build that into your quote. If you need it longer, or swapped for an empty one, just call.

Do you take asbestos?

Yes. We're licensed to collect and dispose of asbestos and other hazardous waste safely and legally. Call us to talk through the type and quantity and we'll explain what happens next.

How much does skip hire cost?

It depends on the skip size, what's going in it, where it's going and for how long. Call 01597 851844 or send a quote request and we'll give you a clear price with no obligation.

Can I buy reclaimed materials from you?

Yes. Our reclamation yard sells new, reclaimed and recycled goods. Stock changes all the time, so call ahead or check our Facebook page (opens in a new tab) for what's in.

Which areas do you cover?

We deliver across Mid Wales and the Borders from our yard at Llandegley, near Llandrindod Wells, including Builth Wells, Rhayader, Knighton, Presteigne, Kington, Llanwrtyd Wells, Llangammarch Wells, Brecon, Talgarth, Hay-on-Wye, Leominster and the villages in between.
