The Hard Truth
East Anglia's Water Is Hard Work
Anglian Water classes all of the water in its region as hard to very hard. It picks up chalk on its way to your tap, then leaves it behind as limescale on every tap, kettle, shower screen and boiler it touches.
East Anglian tap water sits at the hard to very hard end of the scale. Softened water sits at the soft end.

Why Do Twin Cylinders Matter?
A single-cylinder softener can't soften water while it recharges, so busy households can run short. With two cylinders, one softens while the other recharges, so you get soft water around the clock.
Kinetico's twin-cylinder softeners run on water pressure alone: no electrics to go wrong, no settings to worry about, and easy-to-handle block salt.

Good Questions
Questions We're Often Asked
Is Softened Water Safe to Drink?
Yes. Softened water contains a little extra sodium, but less than you'll find in milk. We normally fit a separate hard water tap at the kitchen sink for cold drinks. The only times we advise against drinking softened water are when making up baby formula or if you're on a medically supervised low-sodium diet.
How Much Does a Water Softener Cost?
A good single-cylinder softener starts at around £600 to £800, a budget twin-cylinder softener is under £1,300, and the very best twin-cylinder softeners are £1,300 to £1,800 (more for very large homes). Or rent from £30 a month, installation included. You'll get an exact price, including VAT, in writing after your free survey.
Where Will the Softener Go?
Near your stopcock, which is usually under the kitchen sink in newer homes or in the airing cupboard in bungalows. Our engineers are used to tricky spots: softeners fit slim cupboards, little-used corners or their own cabinet outside.
How Long Does Installation Take?
About half a day for a first-time installation. The engineer who surveys your home normally fits the softener too, and shows you how everything works before leaving.
How Much Looking After Does a Softener Need?
Very little. Top up the salt every few weeks, and we can deliver it. We recommend a routine check at least every five years, to catch things like a blocked overflow or resin fade early.
Do You Service Softeners You Didn't Fit?
Yes. Our service engineers work on most makes and models, from Kinetico and EcoWater to softeners built on Autotrol, Fleck and Clack valves. Call us first: we can often help you fix it over the phone.
Can I Rent Instead of Buying?
Yes, from £30 a month including installation and maintenance, with no minimum contract period. You can cancel at any stage without penalty, or buy your softener later at a discount.
