Rectangles from 1ft × 1ft to 27ft × 15ft. Runners from 6ft to 26ft. Hundreds of circles. And if your space is awkward, we’ll have a rug made to fit.
Measure up, then use our rules of thumb. Still unsure? Send us your measurements and we’ll suggest a size.
Front legs on.
Choose a rug big enough for at least the front legs of your sofa and chairs to sit on it. It anchors the seating and makes the room feel bigger. Aim to leave 20–45cm of floor showing around the edges.
Typical sizes 8′ × 5′ 9′ × 6′ 10′ × 7′
Shop rectangular rugsChairs stay on.
Allow at least 60cm beyond the table on every side, so chairs stay on the rug when they’re pulled out. For a six-seat table of about 180 × 90cm, that’s roughly 300 × 210cm.
Typical sizes 9′ × 6′ 10′ × 7′ 11′ × 8′
Shop large rugsA soft first step.
Let the rug run 50–60cm beyond each side of the bed, so your feet land on it in the morning. Under the lower two-thirds of a double, around 170 × 240cm works well. Or try a runner down each side.
Typical sizes 8′ × 5′ 9′ × 6′ 2 × runners
Shop soft shaggy rugsRoom to breathe.
Leave 10–15cm of floor showing on each side of a runner, and stop it short of doors so they open freely. Our runners come in lengths from 6ft to 26ft (1.8m to 7.8m).

Made to measure & bespoke
Many of our Indian and Pakistani rugs can be made to your exact measurements, up to around 50ft × 30ft. So the awkward alcove, the long landing or the grand hall finally gets a rug that fits.
Want something that’s yours alone? We can have family initials, a crest or a business logo designed and handwoven into a one-off rug.
Ask the experts
Whether it’s a made-to-measure rug, a bespoke design or simply a second opinion, send us the details and one of the team will come back to you personally. A photo of the room helps.

Our story
Frith Rugs has been family-owned and run since 1981. We’re one of the UK’s leading rug importers, and the family still travels to Asia’s great weaving regions to choose rugs in person, buying direct from the people who make them.
It’s why we hold one of the biggest collections in the country, why many of our designs are made exclusively for Frith, and why we know our rugs inside out.
Frith is an Old English word for peace and sanctuary. We think a good rug brings a little of both.
Older Persian rugs, often 25 years or more, can’t always be traced to their source.

Yes. Rugs bought online can be returned within 14 days of receipt for a full refund, as long as they’re unused and in resalable condition. Most of the rugs on our website are in stock and ready to send, in a wide range of sizes. We hold one of the largest rug inventories in the UK.
Very often, yes. Many of our Indian and Pakistani rugs can be made to your exact size, up to around 50ft × 30ft. Send us your measurements and we’ll tell you what’s possible.
Yes, although any rug will reduce the efficiency of underfloor heating a little, and some rug types aren’t suitable. Call us before you buy and we’ll check the tog rating of the rug you have in mind.
On wooden or hard floors, we highly recommend it. Underlay stops your rug slipping, protects your floor and helps the rug last longer. On carpet, the right underlay stops a rug creeping. Very large underlays may come in more than one piece, which doesn’t affect how they work.
All wool rugs can fade with long exposure to strong sunlight, and conservatories with floor-to-ceiling windows speed this up. Drawing the curtains or blinds when the room’s not in use helps. Latex-backed rugs can also stiffen in strong sun, so ask us and we’ll suggest rugs suited to bright rooms.
We accept Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards registered in the UK. Online, you can also spread the cost with Clearpay: four interest-free payments, every two weeks, on orders up to £1,000. Late fees apply. How Clearpay works.
We import directly from the people who make our rugs, visit weaving areas throughout the year and carry out random inspections. We strictly prohibit child and slave labour in our supply chain, and our rugs carry the Frith ethical label. Older Persian rugs, often 25 years old or more, can’t always be traced to their source.
Of course. Our showrooms in Bodelwyddan and Shrewsbury are open 7 days a week. If you’ve spotted a rug online, call ahead and we’ll check which showroom it’s in.
