Talk to the Wine TeamBeer Festival Planner
Beer festivals have been a Dayla speciality since the Great Dayla Ale Trail in the 1990s. Tell us roughly how big yours is and we’ll work out the casks, stillage and glasses to start from. We can find the weird and wonderful ales too, with festival programmes, pump clips and posters.
A 9-gallon cask holds 72 pints; we plan on about 68 servable after sediment. Casks need a day or two on the stillage to settle before serving, kept cool at cellar temperature. Rough guide only: our cask team will help you firm up the order.
Selling alcohol without a premises licence? A Temporary Event Notice covers fewer than 500 people at any one time, staff included, and goes in at least 10 working days ahead.
Send This Plan to Our Cask TeamOur Story
Dayla grew from a Wendover brewery and a mineral water company. The Cooper family still runs it, and the family values Joe Holland started with still run through it.
Why “Dayla”? In the early 1970s Dick Cooper named a new soft drinks brand after his own business: Dick’s AYLesbury Agency.
Joseph Senior Holland, builder, hotelier and licensee, brews at the Wendover Brewery, at the foot of the Chiltern Hills.
His son Joe, back from the First World War, buys North & Randall, a small mineral water company.
North & Randall Ltd is incorporated. It is the same company, Dayla Ltd, today.
Joe’s son-in-law, Richard “Dick” Cooper, joins the business.
Dick sets up the Hubbly Bubbly Organisation, taking a soft drink from South Africa to bottlers across the UK.
Dick launches the DAYLA brand, and in 1977 North & Randall becomes Dayla Soft Drinks (Southern) Ltd.
James Pettit, once the Aylesbury Brewery Company’s wine merchant, joins the Dayla family.
A draught soft drinks business joins, taking Dayla’s post-mix to more than 800 outlets.
A second depot opens to serve London, alongside the distribution centre at Aston Clinton.
More than 170 people, seventeen families among them, with the Cooper family still at the helm.
