01Two ways to hire

Hire the crane. Or hand us the whole lift.

Every Baldwins crane arrives maintained, tested and certificated, with an operator assessed on that make and model. The difference between CPA Hire and a CPA Contract Lift is who plans and controls the lift.

Crane + operator

CPA Hire

You plan and run the lift. We supply the crane and a competent operator.

You provide

  • An Appointed Person to BS 7121
  • The lift plan and safe system of work
  • A lift supervisor and slinger signaller
  • Insurance for the lift (we can arrange cover)

30sLifting requirements check

Which one do you need?

Five questions from our lifting requirements checklist. If the answer to any of them is no, the lift should be fully contracted.

  1. Do you have a trained, competent Appointed Person to plan and control the lift (BS 7121)?
  2. Do you have a trained lift supervisor to supervise it on the day?
  3. Do you have a trained slinger signaller to attach the load and direct the crane?
  4. Do you have a written lift plan and risk assessment, with drawings showing where the crane goes?
  5. Do you have lifting insurance covering the crane, the load and the structures around it?

02The fleet

From 30 tonnes to 1,250. The right crane for the lift.

A modern, owner-operated fleet of Liebherr, Grove, Demag and Tadano cranes: city all-terrains that fit through a tight site gate, up to heavy lifters that arrive with their own ballast convoy. Pick a class, then a crane.

Big cranes need a plan before they leave the yard.

Our heavy cranes travel with their own support: STGO Cat 3 ballast vehicles, low loaders, beam trailers and SPMTs, with route surveys and notifications handled in-house. Strategic depots keep transport time down and working time up.

Not sure which crane you need? Send us the load weight, radius and lift height and our engineers will specify it.

03Heavy lift & projects

Tight windows. Heavy loads. Delivered.

Our Projects & Engineering team plans and runs complex lifts for principal contractors, freight forwarders, ports and utilities, with the cranes, transport and people under one roof.

Our Projects and Marine team discharged two Super Grid Transformers bound for National Grid substations from a vessel at Tilbury. The berths there run at capacity seven days a week, so the real challenge was rigging, lifting and de-rigging a crane this size inside the berth window.

Good questions to ask before you book.

Talk it through01753 211270
What's the difference between CPA Hire and a CPA Contract Lift?

With CPA Hire you take responsibility for planning and controlling the lift: you supply the Appointed Person, the lift plan and the lifting team, and we supply a maintained, certificated crane with a competent operator. With a CPA Contract Lift we take on that responsibility: we supply the Appointed Person, plan the lift and organise and control the operation. All our equipment is supplied in accordance with the relevant CPA conditions.

What information do you need for a quote?

The weight and size of the load, the radius and height you need to lift to, the site postcode, access and ground conditions, and your dates. Drawings or photos help. If you don't have every detail, call the hire desk and our engineers can advise.

Can you arrange lifting insurance?

Yes. If you don't have insurance covering the crane, the load and the surrounding structures, we can offer cover through our insurers. Speak to the hire desk or our sales team.

Do you work 24 hours a day?

Yes. Our hire desk runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and our national emergency response team handles incident recoveries around the clock on 07747 036831.

Which areas do you cover?

The whole of the UK. Our cranes and crews work from depots in West London, East London, Westcott, Newport, Barnsley and Warrington, and our heavy cranes travel nationwide.

Are you accredited for rail and utilities work?

Yes. We're audited under RISQS for rail and Achilles UVDB (B2 audit) for utilities and energy, our management system is certificated to ISO 9001:2015, and we're SafeContractor and Constructionline accredited. Staff on rail projects are PTS trained and have completed the Industry Common Induction.

How are your heavy cranes transported?

Heavy cranes travel with supporting heavy transport for their ballast and ancillaries. Our STGO Cat 3 vehicles, low loaders and beam trailers handle that, and we carry out route surveys and notifications. Your site needs enough room to deliver and set up the ancillaries; we'll check this at survey.

Do you offer contracts and service level agreements?

Yes. Project contracts give you continuity of service, price and people for the life of a project, and service level agreements cover maintenance contracts and annual shutdowns across the country.
