The real cost of a missed shift

Temporary labour shouldn’t be a daily gamble.

When agency supply is treated as a numbers game, your operation pays for it in empty stations, overtime, wasted inductions and risk you can’t see. Sound familiar?

  • Empty stations at 6am

No-shows and short fills that ripple down the line and into your SLAs.

  • Starters gone by week two

Churn that wipes out the cost of every induction and every hour of training.

  • Five agencies, five invoices

Fragmented supply, inconsistent standards, and nobody accountable for the whole picture.

  • Risk you can’t see

Modern slavery, right-to-work and pay-rate exposure hiding deep in your supply chain.

The ALS method

We look after people. That’s why they turn up.

Retention isn’t luck. It comes from a process we run on every site, for every worker, every week.

  1. 01

Engage We start on your shop floor

We learn your operation, your peaks and your KPIs, then build a workforce plan around them. Peak planning starts in July, not November.

    • Site visit & workforce plan
    • Peak & contingency planning
    • Agreed KPIs, real-time reporting
  2. 02

Enable Every worker set up to succeed

Skills testing before day one. Inductions scheduled around real shifts, so night workers are inducted on nights. A buddy on the floor, plus language and health support.

    • Skills tests & online induction platform
    • Buddy system with experienced workers
    • Welfare checks & language support
  3. 03

Empower Progress people and they stay

Weekly appraisals, a 12-week upskilling programme and a clear route from the warehouse floor to team leader and trainer, with rewards for safety and performance.

    • 12-week upskilling programme
    • Rewards & employee of the month
    • Routes into supervisory roles

Results

Proof, not promises.

Real numbers from real sites, published with our clients. Pick a story.

From 40% early attrition to under 3%.

The challenge

40% of new starters were leaving within two weeks. Inductions ran at 60% attendance, and peaks were short of people.

What we did

Skills testing for every new worker. Inductions on the shift people wanted. Our own trainer, adding 30 inductions a week. A 12-week upskilling programme with weekly appraisals and buddies, and Christmas peak planned from July.

  • 94%induction pass rate, up 34%
  • <3%attrition, down from 40%
  • 98%+shift fulfilment, above KPI
  • 140k+processed per day at peak

ALS delivered an outstanding level of achievement with over 140,000 being processed per day. Prior to ALS coming onboard, this would not have been achievable.
