The rules changed in 2026. ECO4 closed on 31 March, and help now comes from four places. Here is what applies today, and when it runs out.
Boiler Upgrade Scheme

Off an air source or ground source heat pump in England and Wales. £9,000 if it replaces oil or LPG heating and you apply by 31 March 2027. £2,500 off an air-to-air heat pump.

If your household earns under £36,000 a year or gets means-tested benefits, and your EPC is D to G, your council may pay for upgrades in full. Ask us and we will tell you if it looks like you qualify.

Tell us about your home and your bills. We arrange a survey at a time that suits you.
A trained surveyor checks your roof, loft, walls and heating, then you get a report with the system we recommend.
We apply for any grant you qualify for and arrange finance if you want it, so the paperwork is ours, not yours.
We agree a date, weekends included, and your project manager runs the job from first fixing to clean-up.
We check everything performs before we sign off. Heat pumps include a 12-month maintenance programme.

For Landlords
Every privately rented home in England and Wales will need an EPC of C or better by 1 October 2030, with spending capped at £10,000 per property. We survey the property, show you which measures get it to C and in what order, then fit them, with finance if it helps.

New builds and social housing are generally excluded. The grant is £9,000 if you are replacing oil or LPG and apply by 31 March 2027. We check eligibility at your survey and make the application for you.
The Feed-in Tariff closed to new applicants in 2019, but panels now pay back in other ways. Every unit you use yourself is one you do not buy, a battery lets you use more of your own power, and the Smart Export Guarantee pays you for what you send to the grid. With 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, your survey shows the figures for your own roof.

It depends on what you are having fitted. Loft insulation is often done in a day, solar and battery systems usually take a few days on site, and heat pumps take longer, especially if radiators need upgrading. Your survey report sets out the plan before any work starts.
Often, yes. Heat pumps run at lower temperatures than boilers, so some rooms may need a larger radiator. Your surveyor checks every room and tells you before you commit.
