Weighs
Laboratory balances that read to 0.01 mg, counting, label printing and retail scales, platform scales, vessel weighing on load cells, and weighbridges.
One Suffolk team for every scale, weighbridge, camera, barrier and door reader on your site. We supply, install, calibrate and repair them, whatever the make and whoever fitted them.
Choose one and the form at the foot of the page is set up for it. For a breakdown, calling 01473 833360 is quickest.
We supply, install, service, calibrate and hire all of it, and we take on maintenance of systems that other companies installed. We are not tied to one manufacturer, so the recommendation fits your site rather than a catalogue.
Laboratory balances that read to 0.01 mg, counting, label printing and retail scales, platform scales, vessel weighing on load cells, and weighbridges.
CCTV from a single camera to a networked system you can view on a phone or laptop, with number plate recognition for car parks and site gates. Design and recommendations are free.
Security barriers, electronic gates, door entry, key fobs and traffic light control, designed and installed for depots, factories, ports and schools.
All of it can go on a calibration, maintenance and servicing contract, with planned visits plus repairs and emergency call-outs.
Ask about a maintenance contractWe calibrate more than 3,000 items a year under our ISO 9001 certified process, with test weights traceable to national standards, on your site or in our workshop at Great Blakenham. Your certificate records what the equipment read when we arrived, what it reads when we leave, and when the next test is due.
We supply UK-made surface and pit-mounted weighbridges, fit the indicators, printers and software that turn a weight into a ticket, and look after more than 150 weighbridges on maintenance or calibration contracts.

Calibration and reverification with a specialist cab, trailer and test weights, run by Eastern Weighbridge Testing, in which STC holds a third share. It tests more than 150 weighbridges a year.
Driver terminals with ticket printers, linked to software, number plate recognition and barrier or traffic light control. At Ipswich docks, one office runs four weighbridges.
Stock control, product traceability, vehicle movement reports and flexible ticket formats, from simple in and out weighing to full management reporting.
A full installation package: the weighbridge is lifted in with a 100-tonne specialist lorry, then stamped using our own test vehicle.
With one team for the CCTV, number plate recognition, barriers, gates and door entry, you get one plan for the whole entrance and one number to call. We design CCTV and recommend equipment free of charge, and we look after many systems that other companies installed.

When Climax Molybdenum moved the security lodge at its Stowmarket plant, we relocated the weighbridge and its PC software, linked new and existing cameras to the new lodge, fitted four barriers and set up staff ID card access. We worked around production on a tight schedule and trained the staff on every system before the deadline.

DBS-checked engineers, work timed for the school holidays, and touch-free fob entry. Since 2018 we have fitted IP CCTV for schools in the Unity Schools Partnership, including 58 cameras on two 32-input recorders at St Edwards COE School in Romford.
Other schools we work with include Farlingaye, Ipswich Academy, Chantry, Orwell Park, Woodbridge Primary, Diss High, Long Stratton High and Great Cornard Upper.
School access control and CCTVEvery engineer is IPAF trained, and we use our own 14-metre cherry picker for cameras mounted high up.
We are SafeContractor approved and registered to ISO 9001:2015 with BSI, certificate FS 73155.

Replacement weighbridges set into the existing foundations over a weekend to keep disruption down, with the site’s weighing software kept as it was.
“Exceptionally professionally carried out.”
A custom traffic light system, so a lorry leaving the weighbridge never meets a forklift leaving a loading bay.
“I can’t believe we didn’t do it years ago.”
A weighbridge moved to the back of the site: decommissioned on Thursday, craned across on Friday, re-stamped by Weights and Measures on Monday.
“It was very professionally undertaken.”
Scales in every area of production, from a 0.1 g powder scale to 5-tonne foundry crane scales, all calibrated once a year. A customer since 2002.
“The service they provide has been first-rate from day one.”
A gate repair at the Claydon depot led to a new intercom, a new barrier and two 16-camera CCTV systems at Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds, both viewable from the managing director’s laptop.

STC was set up in 2001 by people who had already spent years in weighing and CCTV, and two of the founders are still directors. Ian Myland matches customers to the right equipment, and Peter Ord, with more than 30 years in the trade, runs the service side. Jo Hopking has been part of the office team for over 20 years.
Our engineers are DBS checked and IPAF trained, and they are based across the region.

Yes. We service, repair and calibrate weighing equipment, CCTV, barriers and access control from many manufacturers, whether or not you bought it from us. Because we are not tied to one brand, our engineers are used to taking over systems another company installed, and our workshop at Great Blakenham repairs scales and balances from many makers. Tell us the make and model when you get in touch and we will tell you whether we can help, then quote for a one-off visit or a maintenance contract.
It depends on how hard the equipment works and what your quality system or your customers ask for. ISO 9001 expects measuring equipment to be calibrated at set intervals but leaves the interval to you, and once a year is common: Brafe Engineering, a customer since 2002, has every scale calibrated annually. Equipment that is moved, overloaded or used somewhere harsh may need checking more often, and a weighbridge used for trade needs reverification after it has been repaired or adjusted. We will suggest an interval for each item and remind you before the next test is due.
Each certificate gives the make, model, serial number, capacity and division of the equipment, the certificate number and the set of test weights used, with that set’s own certificate number. It lists every load point twice: as found, which is what the equipment read when we arrived, and definitive, which is what it reads after adjustment, each with the error against the tolerance. It also shows the engineer who did the test, the date and when the next test is due. All new weighing equipment we supply comes with an ISO 9001 certificate free.
Yes. We supply hire weighbridges as a full installation package with no minimum hire commitment. The weighbridge is lifted in with a 100-tonne specialist lorry and stamped using our own weighbridge test vehicle. Hire can cover a project with an end date, or the weeks while your own weighbridge is being replaced. Tell us where the site is, how long you need it and what you will be weighing, and we will quote.
Call 01473 833360. We carry out repairs and emergency call-outs on weighbridges of any make, including load cells, indicators, printers and software, and arrange reverification with Trading Standards when a repair needs it. Customers on a maintenance contract also get planned service visits, which help prevent costly and unexpected repairs. For FCC Environment we kept a spare load cell in stock, so their downtime was kept short.
Yes. We design CCTV systems and recommend equipment free of charge, after a site visit where we ask how the site is used and what the pictures need to show. We do not recommend the cheapest camera if it cannot give the level of recognition you need, because a picture that cannot show the detail you need is not worth recording. The quote then sets out the cameras, recorders and any number plate recognition, with options where they make sense.
Yes, and it is an area we specialise in. Our engineers are fully DBS checked, and we plan installations around the school calendar so the work is done when pupils are away. We fit and maintain CCTV, gates, barriers and touch-free fob entry for primary schools, high schools, academies and colleges in East Anglia and Essex, including several schools in the Unity Schools Partnership. We often improve or link up a school’s existing system when budget matters more than starting again.
Our base is at Orion Court, Great Blakenham, near Ipswich (IP6 0LW), and our engineers are based across the region. We cover Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire for routine maintenance, calibration and installations, and we travel anywhere in the UK for larger projects: we have replaced weighbridges for Hackney Borough Council in London and fitted CCTV for a school in Romford. If you are not sure whether we reach you, call and ask.
