Raw timber in one end. A jukebox out the other.

Sandleas Way is one of the few factories left in Britain where a product is made start to finish under one roof. We even make our own circuit boards, because that is the only way to know every part of a jukebox that has to last a lifetime.

  1. A craftsman in a dust mask sanding the curved wooden hoop of a jukebox door

    The wood shop

Timber is cut, formed and sanded into the arch of a Golden Age cabinet. We are the only maker still building dome-top cabinets in one piece, the way the 1940s originals were made.

  2. Close-up of polished chrome castings and bubble tubes on a Sound Leisure jukebox

    The finishing shop

Hand-polished walnut and oak, any RAL colour, or a finish matched to your furniture. Cabinet graphics are printed and laminated in-house.

  3. A technician's tattooed hands adjusting a jukebox vinyl mechanism on the bench

    The electronics bench

Amplifiers, circuit boards and record mechanisms are designed and built here. Our vinyl mechanism holds 70 singles and plays both sides of every one.

  4. Two Sound Leisure craftsmen lowering the roof onto a Rocket jukebox on the factory floor

    The final line

Every jukebox is assembled by hand and checked before it leaves. Then our own team delivers it, sets it up and shows you every feature.

Having visited the Sound Leisure workshops and witnessed the skill and craftsmanship that went into producing these gorgeous machines, I had to have one and having taken a deep breath, ordered one on the spot.

The family firm that kept the jukebox playing.

Alan Black, an electrical engineer, founded Sound Leisure in Leeds in 1978. Big American names have come and gone since. The Black family still owns and runs the company, which makes it the oldest single-ownership jukebox company in the world.

  1. 1978

Sound Leisure starts building jukeboxes in Leeds, and soon becomes the first British company to make a commercially viable jukebox platform.

  2. 1988

We demonstrate a digital jukebox at a UK trade show, years before the MP3. Experts insist a CD player must be hidden offstage.

  3. 2016

Vinyl comes back. The Rocket’s new mechanism makes it the first production vinyl jukebox anywhere in over 20 years, and we are named one of the UK’s top 100 manufacturers.

  4. 2019

HRH The Princess Royal tours the factory for our 40th anniversary, and the Yorkshire Post names us Exporter of the Year.

  5. 2020

We are awarded the Manufacturing Guild Mark, and ITV’s Made in Britain films a Golden Age jukebox from first cut to finish.

  6. Today

The Wurlitzer family commission our official 1015 tribute. Around 80% of what we build goes to more than 40 countries, and most of it to people’s homes.

If you can dream it, we can build it.

Every jukebox is built to order, so almost any part of it can be made yours. Our Custom Shop is the only low-volume custom jukebox service in the world: one machine for your games room, or a run of them for your brand.

Questions people ask before they buy.

Are jukeboxes still made?

Yes. We have built them in Leeds since 1978 and still hand-build every classic jukebox to order, in 7-inch vinyl, LP, CD and digital. Most take around six to eight weeks from your deposit, and in-stock models can go out straight away.

Do your jukeboxes play real vinyl records?

They do. Our 7-inch mechanism holds 70 singles, small hole or large, and plays both sides of each, so you get 140 selections. The LP models hold 10 or 20 records and play LPs and 12-inch singles at the right speed, both sides.

How much does a jukebox cost?

Our compact and wall-mounted jukeboxes start at £4,695. Full-size classic jukeboxes run from £11,495 for a Rocket CD to £16,990 for a Wurlitzer 1015 Tribute that plays LPs. Prices include VAT and free standard delivery to mainland UK addresses, and pre-loved machines start at £6,250.

Can I stream music to it from my phone?

Yes. Every full-size model has a Bluetooth receiver fitted as standard, so whatever plays on your phone comes out of the jukebox’s own speakers. A selection made on the jukebox takes priority, then it fades back to your stream when the record finishes.

Will a jukebox fit in my room?

A standard Golden Age cabinet is about 155cm tall, 83cm wide and 70cm deep, and weighs around 130kg. Our Slimline cabinets are 54cm deep, and the wall-mounted models take no floor space at all.

Free delivery covers ground-floor rooms with no more than two steps on the way in. Tell us about stairs or narrow doors and we will plan the delivery with you.

Do you deliver outside the UK?

Yes. Around 80% of the jukeboxes we build go abroad, to more than 40 countries. We crate them for air or sea freight, and in many countries a Sound Leisure distributor will deliver, set up and look after your jukebox locally. Ask us for a delivery quote before you order.

What happens if it ever needs a repair?

Call us. Every jukebox comes with free lifetime technical support from a real person, we hold more than 10,000 spare parts, and we still service most of the jukeboxes we have built over the last 40 years. Buying direct gives you a 12-month warranty, which you can extend to three or five years.

Can I visit the factory before I buy?

Please do. Guided tours run on set mornings through the year and cost £15, with refreshments and a gift to take home. The Leeds showroom is open daily with free parking: call 0113 232 1700 to arrange a visit.

Can I reserve a jukebox while I decide?

Yes. A £2,500 deposit reserves a guaranteed build date for your jukebox while you settle the details, and you pay the balance before delivery.

Tell us where it will live.

The room, the records, the timescale. Our team will come back to you with the right model and an exact price, delivery included, wherever you are.

So we can include delivery in your price.
