Mark the teeth you’re missing

Tap each gap, or any tooth that’s due to come out. It’s drawn as your dentist charts it, facing you, so your right side is on the left.

Nothing marked yet. One implant with its crown starts at £2,000.

Starting prices from the Smile Cliniq fee guide, October 2026. Your dentist confirms your plan and its cost after examining you.

  • Crown Porcelain, made to your shade by Kevin Vara, our dental technician and ceramist
  • Abutment The titanium post that holds the crown on the implant

How long it takes: a few months, sometimes more than a year

  1. 1

    Free consultation

    10 minutes

Your options, likely costs, finance and sedation. No examination, nothing clinical.

  2. 2

    Examination and CT scan

    Before anything is booked

Where needed, a low-dose CT scan shows the bone, the nerves and, for top back teeth, the sinus. Nothing proceeds without your full understanding and consent.

  3. 3

    The implant goes in

1 to 2 hours an implant

Under local anaesthetic, with IV sedation if you’d like it. You can have a temporary tooth on the day.

  4. 4

    Healing

    Usually 3 to 6 months

The bone grows onto the implant. It takes longer if you needed a bone graft first.

  5. 5

    Your crown is fitted

    One or two visits

Scans go to Kevin, who makes the crown. Fitting takes 1 to 2 hours.

Afterwards, implant hygiene visits (£150) and check-ups twice a year keep your 5-year guarantee valid.

The downsides, the risks and the other options

Smile Cliniq publishes the positives, the negatives and the alternatives for its treatments, so you can decide before you come in. For implants, these are the ones to weigh up.

The downsides

  • The cost comes up front, though monthly payments can spread it.
  • It means minor surgery, under local anaesthetic.
  • Healing takes months before your final crown goes on.
  • With a full arch, the first teeth are temporary and are replaced after 3 to 6 months.

The risks your dentist will go through

  • Pain and swelling for a few days afterwards.
  • Tingling or numbness if a nerve in the lower jaw is disturbed. The CT scan shows where the nerves are, so they can be avoided.
  • Smokers are two and a half times more likely to have an implant fail.
  • Gum disease has to be treated first, by our specialist periodontist if it’s severe.

Other ways to fill a gap

  • Implant from £2,000

Fixed in place, and the teeth either side are left alone.

  • Bridge from £450 a tooth

Fixed in place, but the teeth either side are shaped to hold it.

  • Denture from £495

Comes out to clean. Acrylic, or cobalt chrome from £950.

Pain, bone loss, smoking, the guarantee and paying monthly

Does having an implant hurt?

It’s done under local anaesthetic, so you should feel pressure rather than pain. You may be sore and a little swollen for a few days afterwards; over-the-counter painkillers usually help. If you’re nervous, Dr Nizarali can give you IV sedation (£400).

Can I have implants if I’ve lost bone?

Often, yes. The CT scan shows how much bone you have. If there isn’t enough, a bone graft (from £800) or, for top back teeth, a sinus lift (from £800) can build it up first.

I smoke. Can I still have an implant?

You can, but smokers are two and a half times more likely to have an implant fail, and smoking makes the 5-year guarantee invalid. Your dentist will talk this through with you.

What does the 5-year guarantee cover?

Implants and crowns are guaranteed for five years against breaking, loosening and cracking in normal use, as long as you keep up check-ups and hygiene visits twice a year. Bone grafts, sinus lifts and temporary teeth aren’t covered, and nor is damage from grinding, accidents or smoking.

Can I pay monthly?

Yes, for treatment from £600 to £25,000, through Chrysalis Finance and subject to status. It’s 0% APR over 6 or 12 months; longer terms carry interest.

Are implants free on the NHS, or for over-60s?

Implants are rarely available on the NHS, usually only through a hospital for people who need them after an injury or an illness such as mouth cancer. There’s no age exemption. Smile Cliniq is a private practice, so you pay the prices on this page.

Why not have implants abroad?

It can cost less up front. Before you decide, ask who will check and clean the implant afterwards, and who puts it right if something goes wrong. Here, the practice that places your implant sees you for check-ups, and the 5-year guarantee applies.

Which implants do you use?

We work with several established implant systems. At your free consultation your dentist explains the ones we use and how they differ.
