Outside the Cab

Close the Gap. Cut the Drag.

At 60 mph, nearly half a typical truck's engine power goes on pushing air out of the way. Set a Hatcher spoiler to the height of your body and that flat wall becomes a clean line, so the saving starts on the first run.

Up to 7% less fuel from the right air kit on trunking work between distribution centres, by Hatcher's own figures.

Roof Spoilers and Air Kits

Fixed, Adjustable or Smart

Every body height is different, so every spoiler is matched to the work. Side collars, streamers and skirts close the gaps at the corners.

  • FixedSet once, for fleets that run one body height.
  • AdjustableRaised or lowered by hand when the body or trailer changes.
  • SmartSenses the trailer height when the ignition goes on, and sets itself.

Fridge Spoilers

A Cooler Fridge and a Smaller Fuel Bill

Shaped to feed air into the refrigeration unit as well as over the body. Operators report fuel savings of at least 5%. It tilts and locks open for servicing, has a galvanised non-slip catwalk and bolts to the cab's existing fixing points, so there is no drilling and the manufacturer's warranty stays intact.

Electric Trucks

Less Drag, More Range

On a battery truck, drag costs miles. We developed aerodynamic body parts with Renault Trucks UK for its electric E-Tech range, and our conversions are already going onto electric chassis such as the DAF XB.

Renault Trucks Aerodynamics

Shaped by wind-tunnel testing at Cranfield University and the Innovate UK-backed ACT aerodynamics project, then designed in-house with 3D scanning, CAD and 3D-printed prototypes.

The Spoiler Check

How Much Is Your Gap Costing You?

We counted 209 rigids and artics on the A14. 123 had a roof spoiler set to the wrong height or damaged, and five had no spoiler at all. That drag never shows up as its own line on a fuel report, but you pay for it on every mile.

Extra Fuel Usedabout 1.1%

Per Vehicle, a Year£471

Across Your Fleet£4,714

Estimate based on Hatcher's rule of thumb that every 36 cm of body exposed above the cab adds about 1% to fuel use. Real results depend on speed, wind and load, and can be higher: one courier fleet saved 3% by closing a single 400 mm gap.

Inside the Cab

Sleep, Seat and Store, in the Cab You Already Have.

Our conversions extend the original cab instead of replacing it, and they are trimmed and finished to match the factory interior. Fleets use them to keep drivers out on the road without hotel bills. Owner-drivers use them because a proper bunk makes a long week shorter.

Van to HGV Conversions for vans like the Sprinter and Daily, right up to 7.5 tonne and heavier rigids such as the DAF LF, Renault D and Volvo FL.

“The air kit will still pay handsomely with the mileages we are doing.”

Made in Framlingham

Designed, Moulded, Finished and Fitted Under One Roof.

Every Hatcher part starts on Broadwater Road. We scan the cab, design the part, make the tooling and mould it on our own line, then trim, wire, upholster and fit it with our own team. One factory, one standard, one number to call.

  • 8 minbetween fully cured parts on our semi-automated FRP line. Standard methods manage one or two per mould per shift.
  • 1968The year Hatcher started making parts for commercial vehicles. We have made nothing else since.
  • ISO 9001Quality management certified by NQA, under UKAS accreditation.

    01 Scan and Design

3D scanning, CAD and 3D-printed prototypes, so a new part fits the cab first time.

  2. A plywood pattern taking shape in the Hatcher tooling shop

    02 Make the Tools

  3. Resin lines feeding closed moulds on Hatcher's semi-automated FRP production line

    03 Mould

Hand lay-up, spray lay-up and light RTM. On our line, robots turn the moulds and the resin is dosed exactly.

  4. A Hatcher fitter setting a window into a moulded cab panel

    04 Finish and Fit

Trimmers, finishers, upholsterers, fabricators and auto electricians make every part ready to go on.

Contract Moulding

Need FRP parts made to your design? Our tooling shop and production line take on contract work too, using your existing tools or new ones we build for you.

How to Buy

Three Ways to Get Hatcher Kit on the Road.

  1. Supply Only

A complete kit with its fixings, ready for your own workshop to fit. Fridge spoilers bolt to the cab's existing fixing points.

  2. Fitted in Framlingham

Bring the vehicle to Suffolk and our team fits, wires and finishes it. Pony pods and ShutEye beds usually take a day.

  3. Fleet Roll-Out

One specification across every vehicle. We built our production line so complete fleets can be equipped fast.

Questions

What Fleet Managers Ask Us First.

Something else on your mind? Call 01728 723675 or email solutions@hatchercomp.co.uk.

Which vehicles do you make parts for?

Most trucks and vans on UK roads: DAF, Ford, Isuzu, IVECO, MAN, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi Fuso, Peugeot, Renault Trucks, Scania and Volvo. Use the vehicle finder on this page, or call 01728 723675 with the make, model and cab type and we will tell you what fits.

How much fuel will an air kit save?

It depends on the vehicle, the body height, speed and route. As a guide, our own figures are up to 7% for trucks trunking between distribution centres, and operators report at least 5% on refrigerated vehicles with a Hatcher fridge spoiler. One courier fleet saved 3% just by correcting a spoiler that left 400 mm of body exposed.

Will a fridge spoiler affect my vehicle warranty?

Our fridge spoilers mount on the cab's existing fixing points, so there is no drilling and the vehicle manufacturer's warranty is preserved. The spoiler is hinged and locks open, so engineers get safe access to the refrigeration unit, and a galvanised non-slip catwalk protects the cab roof.

Do you fit the parts, or just supply them?

Both. Most parts can be sent as a kit for your own workshop to fit, or fitted by our team at our site in Framlingham, Suffolk. Pony ISM sleeper pods and ShutEye beds can usually be fitted in a day.

How much weight does a conversion add?

We publish it for every conversion: a Deep Sleeper adds about 140 kg, a SuperClass Sky Cab 240 kg and a Crew Cab 500 kg. RDS Transport's L3 Sprinters still carry three pallets and 750 kg with a DeepSleeper fitted.

Do you make parts for electric trucks?

Yes. On an electric truck drag costs range, so aerodynamics matter even more. We developed aerodynamic body components with Renault Trucks UK for its E-Tech electric range, and we convert electric chassis too, such as the DAF XB with our Crew Cab.

Can the spoiler come off when we sell the truck?

Our latest Scania spoilers are designed to come off without leaving marks or fittings that could affect the vehicle's resale value. For other makes, ask us when you order.

Do you take on contract moulding?

Yes. We design and make tooling in-house or work from your existing tools, and mould using hand lay-up, spray lay-up and light RTM. Our semi-automated line suits larger volumes, and every part is made under our ISO 9001 certified quality system.
