Data cabling, security and electrical work from one Burwell team

One team fits the network cable, the security system and the power behind them. FBX Group is the new name for Fibrenex Communications, cabling businesses around Cambridge since 1997.

Data cabling and fibre, from a single outlet to links between buildings

Cat5e, Cat6 and Cat6A to desks, ceilings and comms cabinets, with fibre wherever copper runs out of distance: between data cabinets, across a campus or out to cameras around a science park. If the route needs new ducts, we’ll arrange those too.

Paxton access control, Ajax alarms and network CCTV

Security systems planned with the cabling they run on, by people who install both.

  • Paxton access control

Readers, fobs and door controllers that decide who goes where, and when. We’re listed on Paxton’s installer finder (opens in a new tab) as a Paxton Partner.

  • Ajax intruder alarms

Wireless alarms that can cover intrusion, fire, flood and video on one connected system, with alerts to your phone.

  • Network CCTV

Cameras placed for the coverage you need, cabled by the same team and set up for viewing on site or remotely.

  • Sensors for schools

HALO smart sensors for toilets and changing rooms, the places cameras can’t go.

Cameras, cabling and an alarm in a shop that stayed open

  • 15 network cameras covering the whole site
  • Structured cabling to every camera
  • A Texecom intruder alarm for out of hours
  • A screen at the entrance showing live footage

“The team installed the cameras and cabling with minimal disruption to the store. Having the screen at the entrance showing customers they’re on camera has already made a noticeable difference.”

Robert Boswell, director of the Sawston store

Commercial electrical installation and testing

The power the other two teams depend on, from the supply to a comms cabinet to the spur behind a door controller, and electrical work in its own right.

  • Installations

New circuits, sockets, lighting and supplies for cabinets, controllers and recorders.

  • Maintenance and repairs

Reactive work and changes that keep a working building running.

  • Testing and inspection

Existing installations inspected, tested and written up.

  • Emergency lighting

Fittings installed, tested and kept in working order.

Who does what on five common jobs

Most jobs need more than one trade. Pick one to see what each FBX team does.

Who does what, drawn as one buildingAn elevation of a small building with a comms room, an office and an entrance lobby. Blue data cables, green security wiring and red power cables run along the ceiling void from the comms cabinet and the distribution board, and drop to desks, a Wi-Fi access point, an emergency light, alarm detectors, an access-controlled door, a camera and an entrance screen. The parts for the chosen job are shown in full; everything else fades back.Comms roomOfficeEntrance

Terminate and test for electricians

Some electrical contractors pull the Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A or fibre into position themselves but don’t carry the termination and test kit. We finish the cabling and hand over the results.

  1. You pull the cable

Copper or fibre, run and left at each end.

  2. We terminate it

Patch panels, outlets and fibre splicing, with a 6U to 42U cabinet if you need one.

  3. We test every link

On a regularly calibrated Fluke tester.

  4. You get the results

Full test results for your handover file.

Installs for IT companies’ clients

IT support firms use us to put in their customers’ cabling, and some let us deal with those customers directly.

“I have been happy for Fibrenex to communicate directly with our long standing customers on infrastructure matters.”

Gary Arber, network infrastructure project manager, Cambridge

“At Clear IT Solutions we use Fibrenex as a business partner to do all cabling needs of our clients.”

What happens at Lucas Close before an engineer arrives

“When that phone rings, we don’t want to be saying, ‘We’ll order it in.’ We want to be saying, ‘We’ll get it sorted.’”

Cable, cabinets and fittings are kept in our own stock room, so planned installs, late changes and emergencies aren’t waiting on a delivery.

Job notes on every engineer’s phone

Job details go straight to the engineers’ phones, and progress, variations and extra work are recorded as they go. Head office can see where each job is up to, and another engineer can pick it up without losing track.
