Coda-Pin

A family firm in Little Maplestead, supplying spring contacts since 1980

Colin Davis founded Coda Systems in 1980, and it is still family owned and run. Coda-Pin test probes came first. Swift-Dock followed in 2013 and is now designed into OEM products all over the world, shipped from the Essex headquarters.

IP ratings, contact counts, vibration and docking gaps

Answers from Coda’s own Swift-Dock FAQ. Read the full FAQ (opens in a new tab)

What IP rating does Swift-Dock have?

Coda doesn’t quote one, because it depends on the product a pair is designed into. Its estimate is IP50 without the SD-G gasket and IP55 with it. Potting compound or liquid silicone on the back of the assembly can approach IP67.

Can I have more than six contacts?

Yes. Swift-Dock-Data comes in 7, 8, 9 and 12 pin versions, and SD-DATAPOWER-8 carries 6 data and 2 power contacts. For more than 12, Coda recommends several arrays in the dock.

Which side goes in the dock?

The spring contact side. Coda advises keeping the springs out of the wet: the land side suits the portable part and can be sealed from the back with potting or silicone.

What gap should the housings have when docked?

1.0 to 1.5 mm. Too little compression or too big a gap can make the electrical contact unstable.

Are lighter or heavier springs available?

Light springs are in the shop for Swift-Dock 7 mm, Mini and Ultra-Power, and long reach versions for Mini and Power. Heavy springs, mixed contacts and lands in one side, and mixed standard and power contacts are made to order.

How does Swift-Dock cope with vibration and sliding?

It takes light vibration. Strong or specific vibration can wear contacts early or cause disconnects, so test the interface in your approval process. A sliding or angled approach works with care for the plating.

Is there a minimum order, and can I get samples?

There is no minimum order quantity: buy a single side in the shop with a free account, or request samples from the technical team with the form below.
